Jonathan Minquiz

My name is Jonathan Minquiz, and I am a trumpet player with Mariachi Alma Juvenil. I joined in 2022 at 12 years old, and since then mariachi has become a big part of my life and identity.

Today, I serve as MAJ’s Digital Media Coordinator, where I manage our website, Google Workspace tools, and social media. This role allows me to blend my passion for music with my interest in technology and leadership.

Outside of MAJ, I play tenor drums in my high school marching band, trumpet in the concert band, and serve as a Police Explorer. I’m also starting my own nonprofit, South Bay Youth Performing Arts, to give other young people the same opportunities music has given me.

As a proud Mexican-American, my dream is to become a music teacher and inspire the next generation. Looking ahead, my top college choices are The Ohio State University and UCLA. Mariachi has given me not just music, but also family, leadership, and a vision for my future.
